What’s on my playlist – Fatima

February 25, 2016

In my Tunesday posts, I share with my readers music that I enjoy, sometimes with a little backstory, sometimes not. With ‘What’s on my playlist” fellow bloggers and readers of OSI now have a chance to share their favourite music and artists and their least liked music or musician as well. Each week I will have a different guest featured. If you would like to contribute to this series, pop me an email at hello(at)osoinspired(dot)com.

What’s on my playlist – Nadia from My Hartjie

December 24, 2015

In my Tunesday posts, I share with my readers music that I enjoy, sometimes with a little backstory, sometimes not. This week’s post is by Cape Town fashion blogger Nadia. She blogs over at My Hartjie, which is Afrikaans for My Heart.

Tell us a bit about yourself and your blog.
Hi, guys! My name is Nadia and I’ve been blogging over at My Hartjie since 2013. My Hartjie is primarily a personal style blog set to the tune of my weekend adventures in and around Cape Town. I am a junior attorney by day, and my blog is a (much needed) creative outlet where I can break away from my day job and focus on the prettier things in life. I’m also an artist and avid online gamer when not practicing law or mentally styling outfits for myself or strangers in the mall.

What style of music do you enjoy? Who are some of your favourite artists?
As a teenager, I regarded rock and roll as the only “real” music in the world, but luckily growing up brings some perspective! Although I still enjoy – slightly more intelligible – rock music (with way less drama and screaming involved) such as Foo Fighters and Muse, I primarily listen to new indie pop and folk artists I happen across on Reddit’s r/ListenToThis nowadays. The artist I enjoy listening to is quite diverse – anything from Bob Dylan, Noah and the Whale, Catey Shaw to Lana Del Rey, Nine Inch Nails and classic eighties glam rock.

Do you sing in the shower? If yes, what are your favourite songs to sing?
Heck, yeah! I often belt out tunes of Lana Del Rey, and my haunting rendition of Bon Iver’s “Skinny Love” is probably the reason my neighbour is moving out this December.

Who is your favourite local artist?
I don’t own any of their music, but I enjoy hearing Bittereinder on the radio. It’s refreshing. I also loved Die Heuwels Fantasies when they first appeared, but their sound hasn’t really evolved since.

What was the best performance that you saw live?
Definitely Foo Fighters in Cape Town last year. Three hours of absolute fun and great music!

What was the first CD or cassette that you bought?
I was 10 or 11 and Backstreet Boys’ “Millennium” gave me LIFE.

What artist’s music makes you want to pull your hair out? Why?
I had to google this, but “Tuesday” by Drake and ILoveMakonnen is definitely a contender. How out of tune must the latter be if even autotune can’t help? Also, any Afrikaans pop star with a doef-doef backtrack.

What’s on my playlist – Amy from Rambling Amy

December 3, 2015

In my Tunesday posts, I share with my readers music that I enjoy, sometimes with a little backstory, sometimes not.  With ‘What’s on my playlist” fellow bloggers and readers of OSI now have a chance to share their favourite music and artists and their least liked music or musician as well. Each week I will have a different guest featured. If you would like to contribute to this series, pop me an email at hello(at)osoinspired(dot)com.

This week’s playlist is by Jozi blogger, Amy who blogs over at Rambling Amy. She often posts music posts as well and I find that her music picks for this week’s whats on my playlist are right up my alley.

Rambling Amy
Tell us a bit about yourself and your blog.
I am Amy, a 28 year old working in the digital marketing industry up in good, old Johannesburg. I recently started my blog after year of um-ing and ah-ing over it and wondering what on Earth I would have to contribute to the Internet that hasn’t already been said. I finally took the leap when I moved out of home and realised it would be a cool way for my (empty-nest suffering) mom to read about what’s going on in my life. Blogging platforms have become a lot cooler since the days of LiveJournal and I’m having a blast with mine 🙂

What style of music do you enjoy? Who are some of your favourite artists?
I honestly enjoy most genres – anything with gorgeous melodies and catchy or interesting lyrics will generally have my attention for a while. At the moment I’d say I’m definitely going through an electronic/dance phase. I love Muse, RAC, Empire of the Sun, Kings of Leon, Goldfish, Aerosmith, Disclosure, golden oldies such as The Beatles, Louis Armstrong, Etta James, The Rat Pack, and various soundtracks as well. I love the Marie Antoinette and Midnight in Paris OSTs.

Do you sing in the shower? If yes, what are your favourite songs to sing?
Haha I do! Mainly show-tunes and older songs like Singin’ in the Rain, All That Jazz, etc.

Who is your favourite local artist?
I’m loving Monark! I only found out the other day that they are South African – I thought they were American or English!

What was the best performance that you saw live?
Hmm, probably Lady Gaga. Her music doesn’t always hit the right spot for me but as a performer she is exceptional! She really knows how to put on a good show.

What was the first CD or cassette that you bought?
Mariah Carey – Butterfly *cringe* I redeemed myself shortly after by buying Aerosmith’s Just Push Play though 😛

What artist’s music makes you want to pull your hair out? Why?
Despite loving ‘One Last Time’ (such a guilty pleasure song!), Ariana Grande’s faster-paced songs make me cringe; a lot of it sounds like screaming. She does really well with the more ballad-y song though.

What’s on my playlist?

Thanks for your post Amy, I’ve really enjoyed your music picks. I haven’t heard some of the artists before and I’m always keen to listen to new music.

Cass Amaze Blog
Tell us a bit about yourself and your blog.
My name is Cassarica or Cass as my readers know me and I run AmazeBlog. I am originally a PE girl who is now living in JHB with my Significant Other and a pet Chinchilla, as a home-maker. I love all things fun and colourful and try to surround myself with positive energy in every aspect of my life. I started AmazeBlog because I have always had a love for writing – I write about Keractoconus an eye disease I have, relationships, technology etc. I use my blog as a platform to create awareness as well as to get my views and interests out there.

What style of music do you enjoy? Who are some of your favourite artists?
The style of music I listen to can vary on my mood. I was fortunate to grow up in a home where music was an important part of life my dad listened to many different artists, he also sang and played the guitar and that is how I learnt to sing. I was exposed to different genres of music and have equal love for each of them from country, to celtic to rap, I enjoy them all. My favourite artists are Jonny Cash, Simon and Garfunkel, Celtic Woman, Taylor Swift, George Ezra, Gold Fish, Fetty Wap and Lil Dicky.

CassHer hair colour is amazing!

Do you sing in the shower? If yes, what are your favourite songs to sing?
Yes, I do! but when no one is home! I sing Disney songs like the Little Mermaids, Part of your world or Pocohontas’, Just around the river bend.

Who is your favourite local artist?
I really enjoy Gold Fish, The Arrows and Good Luck – But my favourite has to be Good Luck I have listened to their fist album too many times to count.

What was the best performance that you saw live?
Well, the one that comes to mind is my very first concert that I saw in Port Elizabeth. WestLife had come to town in 2005 (Wow, 10 years ago!) and I was a huge fan girl swooning over this Irish boy band. They put on a great live show and it left me with a life long memory of great music and gorgeous boys!

What was the first CD or cassette that you bought?
The first C.D  I bought was a Britney Spears, Stronger. I remember being really excited to get it and playing it on repeat for months on end.

What artist’s music makes you want to pull your hair out? Why?
I really cannot stand Drake – Tuesday and O.T. Genasis – CoCo. These songs drive me crazy when they automatically play when I am listening to a YouTube playlist.

What’s on my playlist?

Thanks so much for sharing your music picks Cass, I enjoyed listening to them. It’s a great mix to help us get ready for the weekend.
