Baby Bash – Suga Suga

March 28, 2016

As you may know from previous Tunesday posts, I love covers and remixes of songs and Baby Bash – Suga Suga is a popular choice for remixes. Unfortunately not all covers or remixes are better than the original or as good as the original. Sometimes they are bad or downright terrible.

Candy
Baby Bash – Suga Suga was remixed in 2015 by Robin Schulz (as Sugar) and to be honest I hate the remix. It does the original injustice. It lacks the smoothness and appeal of the original Suga Suga. Baby Bash’s version intends to seduce the listener and the now popular remix just does not do it. The guitar on the original is like a cherry on a sundae, without it the song is just not the same. Sorry Robin, but Baby Bash has my vote.

What’s on my playlist – Fatima

February 25, 2016

In my Tunesday posts, I share with my readers music that I enjoy, sometimes with a little backstory, sometimes not. With ‘What’s on my playlist” fellow bloggers and readers of OSI now have a chance to share their favourite music and artists and their least liked music or musician as well. Each week I will have a different guest featured. If you would like to contribute to this series, pop me an email at hello(at)osoinspired(dot)com.

This week Fathima shares with us, what’s on her playlist.

Whats on my playlist

What style of music do you enjoy? Who are some of your favourite artists?
I have quite a varied taste in music, but I don’t like jazz. I’ve recently discovered classical music and it completely blew my mind. My all time favourites include Alanis Morisette, Lady Gaga and Coldplay. My new jam is Ed Shereen.

Do you sing in the shower? If yes, what are your favourite songs to sing?
Lol. No. I shower in 5 minutes flat, no time!

Who is your favourite local artist?
Parlotones

What was the best performance that you saw live
Lady Gaga

What was the first CD or cassette that you bought?
A mix CD in 1997

What artist’s music makes you want to pull your hair out?
Any Jazz musician

Thanks for sharing your picks Fathima!

Justin Bieber – Sorry

February 23, 2016

dog-601216_1280How can you say no to this face?

Are you a non-Belieber? Do you like Sorry by Justin Bieber? Don’t be afraid to publicly admit it, as liking this song doesn’t make you a Belieber. I’ve never been one, and I love this song. From the catchy tune to the amazing music video. Can we all agree than choosing to not feature Justin in this video was a stellar idea. I’m not being mean, these women are mesmerising and let’s be honest, nobody would have noticed Justin. Just press play and see for yourself.

What’s on my playlist – Nadia from My Hartjie

December 24, 2015

In my Tunesday posts, I share with my readers music that I enjoy, sometimes with a little backstory, sometimes not. With ‘What’s on my playlist” fellow bloggers and readers of OSI now have a chance to share their favourite music and artists and their least liked music or musician as well. This week’s post is by Cape Town fashion blogger Nadia. She blogs over at My Hartjie, which is Afrikaans for My Heart.

Tell us a bit about yourself and your blog.
Hi, guys! My name is Nadia and I’ve been blogging over at My Hartjie since 2013. My Hartjie is primarily a personal style blog set to the tune of my weekend adventures in and around Cape Town. I am a junior attorney by day, and my blog is a (much needed) creative outlet where I can break away from my day job and focus on the prettier things in life. I’m also an artist and avid online gamer when not practicing law or mentally styling outfits for myself or strangers in the mall.

What style of music do you enjoy? Who are some of your favourite artists?
As a teenager, I regarded rock and roll as the only “real” music in the world, but luckily growing up brings some perspective! Although I still enjoy – slightly more intelligible – rock music (with way less drama and screaming involved) such as Foo Fighters and Muse, I primarily listen to new indie pop and folk artists I happen across on Reddit’s r/ListenToThis nowadays. The artist I enjoy listening to is quite diverse – anything from Bob Dylan, Noah and the Whale, Catey Shaw to Lana Del Rey, Nine Inch Nails and classic eighties glam rock.

Do you sing in the shower? If yes, what are your favourite songs to sing?
Heck, yeah! I often belt out tunes of Lana Del Rey, and my haunting rendition of Bon Iver’s “Skinny Love” is probably the reason my neighbour is moving out this December.

Who is your favourite local artist?
I don’t own any of their music, but I enjoy hearing Bittereinder on the radio. It’s refreshing. I also loved Die Heuwels Fantasies when they first appeared, but their sound hasn’t really evolved since.

What was the best performance that you saw live?
Definitely Foo Fighters in Cape Town last year. Three hours of absolute fun and great music!

What was the first CD or cassette that you bought?
I was 10 or 11 and Backstreet Boys’ “Millennium” gave me LIFE.

What artist’s music makes you want to pull your hair out? Why?
I had to google this, but “Tuesday” by Drake and ILoveMakonnen is definitely a contender. How out of tune must the latter be if even autotune can’t help? Also, any Afrikaans pop star with a doef-doef backtrack.

The Supremes – Santa Claus is coming to town

December 22, 2015

In just over a week it will be 2016. This week’s Tunesday is short and sweet. The Supremes version of Santa Claus is coming to town is upbeat without being too perky.

Thursday’s What’s on my playlist will be the last post for this year. I will be regrouping and planning new content for 2016. I also want to plan a giveaway, but more on that later.

Happy holidays everyone.
