Empties, Declutters and Project Pans

April to June 2016 Empties

July 15, 2016

Initially when I started doing empties posts, I planned on doing them monthly. However, I do not go through products quickly and I didn’t want to bore my readers by posting the same products over and over (these being the products that I actually finish easily). I decided to do them every 3 months, or bi-monthly, depending on how quickly I do through items.

June 2016 Empties-1

Body Products and Accessories

Nivea Body Moisturiser Rich Nourishing

I received this deluxe sized sample in a goodie bag. The formula is thick but easily absorbed. It’s a good standard product.

Clicks Cosmetic Cotton Pads Smooth Sealed Edge

The quality was okay, but these pads often felt like they would fall apart when I used it with acetone or facial toner. I often forget to buy cotton pads so I’d only repurchase these if I need pads and I forgot to get them elsewhere.

The Body Shop Body Butter in Mango

I love the body butters by The Body Shop and their mango fragrance is one of my all time favourites. I would definitely repurchase this body butter in the exact same scent.

SPAR Biodegradable Baby Wipes

I only purchased this because I was out of my regular wipes and they were the only kind that I could get on my way home. Would not repurchase.

Clicks Baby Wipes

These wipes appeared in the last empties post. Would definitely repurchase.

The Body Shop Organic Cotton Rounds

The Organic Cotton Rounds by The Body Shop are my favourite kind of cotton pads. Unfortunately they’re quite pricy. I will however repurchase these.

Mitchum Roll On

Standard stuff also mentioned in the previous empties post.

My mom swears by this stuff. She bought it for me. Honestly I find the oil very thick and not easy to rub into the skin. The bottle doesn’t also last very long. It does however work well.

June 2016 Empties-2

Eye Products

Design Compact Eyeshadow in Pink Dutchess

Picked this up at one of the Edgars beauty sales a while back. The quality is okay and it’s super affordable. I didn’t declutter this sooner because I thought I would use it. Long story short, it wasn’t touched in a while, so it has to go. So this baby will be cleaned and given to my goddaughter. She’s getting into makeup and it will be great for her to play with.

Essence Lash & Brow Gel Mascara

This stuff is amazing. I’m already on my third tube. If you know me, you’ll know that I rarely repurchase makeup products, so being on my third tube speaks volumes on how amazing it is.

Madame Zingara Making Making Magic Make-Up Palette

This wasn’t decluttered sooner because I thought I threw it away. It was found buried in my closet. The only reason I bought this palette was because it was on sale. The bronzer and face powder were used a few times, but the eyeshadows were only swatched. I don’t like lipglosses that come in a palette so they were never used. This will also be cleaned and given to my goddaughter.

Unbranded eyeshadow brush

This had it’s good days, and now it’s done. Time to be tossed.

June 2016 Empties-6

Hair Products

Palmer’s Coconut Oil Formula Conditioning Shampoo

Loved using this shampoo. It’s an affordable sulphate free shampoo. I would definitely repurchase. I wrote about the conditioner in the previous empties.

Batiste Dry Shampoo in Rich & Elegant Paisley

I’ve only ever used Batiste’s dry shampoo so I can’t compare it to other brands, but it works really well. The rich & elegant paisley scent freshens your hair without the smell being overwhelming.

Dark & Lovely Amla Legend Night Wrap Hair Cream

This works well, but only if you use a little at a time. Or else your hair will end up oily and stiff.

June 2016 Empties-7

Rihanna Rebelle

This perfume I used up as apart of a Project Pan I’m doing on Snapchat (add me I’m osoinspired). I got this years ago from Beauty Bulletin. I enjoyed the scent, which was fruity-floral (my favourite type) and would repurchase but I’m currently trying to cut down on the amount of perfume I own and I have enough bottles to currently last me till at least next year.

Perfume samples

As I threw away of my empties after I took the photos I typed the names of all of the perfume samples and my thoughts on my cellphone’s memo. I had to do a factory reset on my phone and done this before I took the info off. Very silly I know.

June 2016 Empties-10

Face Products

Gallia Anti-Blemish Moisturiser

This moisturiser was okay I guess. I’m not to impressed by it. I found the product a bit drying and sometimes it was difficult to rub into my skin and it left white blots. Would not repurchase.

The Body Shop Tea Tree Skin Clearing Facial Wash

As a lover of The Body Shop products, I thoroughly enjoyed this face wash. It helped reduce the blemishes made by acne scars on my face and I swear my face feels smoother. Like most TBS products it lasts ages, which makes it good value for money.

Skin Strategy Soothing & Calm Face Mask

These masks were only R15 a pop but they didn’t really do much to my skin. I would have been better off making a mask myself.

Clicks Sea Mineral Face Mask

This is a clay mask and I love clay masks. It’s super affordable and works well. Would definitely repurchase.

Cettui Silky and Clear Nose Strip with Witch Hazel

Who else loves seeing the gunk on these strips after using them. Disgusting, I know, but I love these strips and need to get me another box as this was my last one.

Dischem Beauty Blender

I pink this oblong beauty blender up from Dischem for a mere R40. It worked well and lasted me for ages. The only reason why I tossed it is because I got nicks and little rips in it, every time I washed it. I’m more gentle with my new blender.

Essence Mattifying Compact Powder in Soft Tan

This product didn’t do much for me. If  I applied my make up in the morning, the mattifying effect didn’t last past 12 (not that it was very mattifying in the first place).

Check out all of my empties posts here.

Empties, Declutters and Project Pans

March 2016 Empties

March 30, 2016

Hi Everyone

The last time I went through all of the beauty and skincare items I have, I clearly didn’t do a thorough job. One of the many items I kept was the REN Skincare Keep Young and Beautiful Anti-Ageing Eye cream. It was one of the many items that hadn’t been used in a while, so I wanted to make use of it. With regards to makeup and beauty items I have a new outlook, if I don’t use it, it has to go. Unfortunately, when I pumped some cream it smelled offish and that’s when I realised that it had gone off. I then immediately went through all of my items and took out everything that I bought or received at the same time as the eye cream and went through them. Things that were still fine and could be sanitised I kept, everything else went in the bin with my empty products.

REN Skincare Keep Young and Beautiful Anti-Ageing Eye Cream and REN Bio Retinoid Anti-Age Concentrate
I received these from Beauty Bulletin such a long time ago and can barely remember my thoughts on them. I thought about buying a new bottle of the concentrate to try, until I saw the price. These babies are pricy.

Isabella Garcia Spot Intense Mask Sample
This is a clay based mask, and I love clay masks. Letting it set then cracking met face once it’s dry is always such fun. Will I purchase a full size. No, buying this mask is not worth having to deal with their telesales staff and their sales tactics.

Freeman Beauty Honeydew and Chamomile Sleeping Mask
This mask smells divine and absorbs quickly into your skin, so one doesn’t need to worry about it staining your pillows. One ratchet last 2 to 4 applications (I managed 4 applications and I’m sure I could have stretched it to 5). It is moisturising and is good for its price range. I would repurchase, but I’d like to try the others in the range.

Clicks Baby Wipes
I prefer using baby wipes to remove my make up. They’re always unscented and do not contain alcohol. I reckon if they’re safe for babies, they’re safe for my face. The Clicks brand is rather good. Would definitely repurchase.

Clicks Round Cotton Pads (not pictured)
I’m not too impressed with these. They’re soft but not very strong. It often feels like it when tear apart when I use toner or eye makeup remover. They’re really affordable, but I’d only really buy them again if I forget to buy The Body Shop’s cotton pads (they are the best) or if I can’t find another brand.

Avon Little Pink Dress EDP
Little Pink dress is one of my favourite perfumes. It is a very light and airy scent with citrus and peony notes. This is my second bottle, which I received as a gift and I will definitely repurchase it.

Yardley You’re The Fire Summer Nights perfume body spray
I received this along with the EDP as a gift last year. The EDP I finished ages ago but only recently finished this bottle. I really enjoyed the scent which is soft and feminine. It consisted of a medley of different notes, which included rose, peony, orange and vanilla. It is something that I would consider buying for myself.

Make up and miscellaneous
Avon Ultra Glazewear Lip Gloss in Mauve Movement and Apple Cinnamon
I received these around the same time as the REN products from Beauty Bulletin. I really enjoyed the colours, particularly Mauve Movement. These are old so they have to go. I’m not sure if I would purchase any of the glaze wear lip gloss. When I first began wearing makeup I preferred lip gloss, and now I prefer lipsticks as I feel they last longer and are less likely to get on everything. Maybe if I begin liking glosses again.

Avon Colourtrend Kajal stick in Black and Violet
Also a very old product. Avon’s Colourtrend products are often hits or misses, and this is the latter. It’s not very pigmented and is very difficult to apply as the pencils feel hard. Hence why I never used it.

Avon Eyeshadow Primer
I’ve had this for a while and it has unfortunately dried out. It definitely helped with making my shadow pop, but I’m not too sure if it helped with making it last longer. Would repurchase, but I first want to try something new.

Oh So Heavenly Happy Hands Diamond in the Rough Ultra Luxurious Nail and Cuticle Cream
This was given to me as part of a gift and I’ve had it for so long that the cream is beginning to look yellow. Definitely time to say goodbye. Not sure if I would purchase it as currently I prefer cuticle oil.

Design Vitamin E Lipstick in Rose
This is one of those cheap lipsticks Edgars always has with their beauty sales. It’s not bad, but it’s not great either. I already I have a similar colour. I’d purchase from this brand again for dress up parties, etc as it is cheap and works fine.

Body Products
Mitchum Advanced Control Anti-Perspirant & Deodorant Roll-On in Pure Fresh
I’m a sweaty lass, eww I know, and this stuff is the one of the only anti-perspirants that work for me. I vary between the scents, which is not very strong (this is great as it won’t clash with perfume). I always have at least one backup, more if it’s on sale.

Dr Hauschka Med Ice Plant Body Care Lotion
Another one of the items that I received wonders ago from BB. Barely used as it’s for people with very dry skin, eczema, etc. I intended on giving this to my goddaughter who has eczema, but upon discovering that the REN products were off I decided it would be best to toss this as well.

Bradley Cocoa Heaven Tissue Oil
The only reason I bought this was because it was cheap. It smells okay, however the oil does not rub completely into my skin. It leaves a film-like feeling on the top of my skin. Wouldn’t repurchase.

Grace Cole Warm Vanilla and Fig Moisturising Body Lotion and Soothing Body Wash
I received these, along with bubble bath (which I finished a long time ago), as gifts. These were nifty sizes, so I used these when I travelled. They have a light scent. Not sure which stores sell it. I would consider purchasing these products if I came across it,

Oh So Heavenly Beauty Collection Softening Lavender Talc
I received these as a part of a gift that I received. The powder itself is okay, but I don’t think I would purchase it for myself as I don’t like wearing scented powder.
Foot products
Avon Foot Works Relaxing Soak and Exfoliating Scrub in Toasted Macadamia
These are rather decent and work fine. I bought it along with the foot cream and I still have a ton of it. I was not particularly found of the scent though, as I prefer fruit or floral scents. I’ve already repurchased other products from Avon’s Foot Works range.

Hair products
Palmer’s Coconut Oil Formula Repairing Conditioner
I enjoyed using this conditioner (along with its shampoo, which I am still using). It’s moisturising but doesn’t make my hair heavy. I cut the tube to get every last drop out. Would definitely repurchase.

Paul Mitchell Express Style Round Up
Another item I received from BB. I’m not particularly ford of it, as the product made my curls sticky. Wouldn’t purchase for myself.

Black Chic Hair Food with Avocado Oil
The only reason I purchase this was because it was dirt cheap (there’s a pattern with the nearly full products that I’m tossing). I didn’t like it much as it is petroleum based. I don’t think I would repurchase it.

Reflection Macadamia Oil Repairing Mask
This mask make my hair very strong and healthy, BUT and it’s a big but, it weighed my hair down so much. It was just too much for my thin, fine hair to handle and the product would cause my hair to get oily within two days, which is sad because it is a rather good mask for dry hair. It would probably work better if you have normal to thick or coarse hair. I unfortunately won’t be repurchasing it.

Glycol-Lemon Leave on Conditioner for all hair types
This conditioner is so old, I can’t recall the last time I used it. If I liked it, I would have used it more and remembered if it worked well. Would not repurchase.

Empties, Declutters and Project Pans

Empties: Hits and Misses

February 22, 2016

How do beauty bloggers finish products so quickly? Mine seem to last forever. Laura over at Whimsy is Forever embarked on a project pan a while back, and her posts inspired me to do an empties post. And boy did I struggle to finish products. When I finished some I ended up accidentally tossing away at least a quarter of my products. These were predominantly hair and skincare products.  In addition, last year in October/November I decided to declutter my makeup collection so I had even fewer items for this post. These were the ones that made it to the bin only after they were photographed.

Body butter

The Body Shop Pink Grapefruit Body Butter

Everybody loves The Body Shop, let’s state that as fact. Walking into a store is a bit like walking into a heaven where you’re surrounded by the most delicious scents. Their body butters are very moisturising and deliciously scented, but I find that they don’t last as long as their other products. Or maybe I’m just using too much. Pink Grapefruit is one of my all time favourite The Body Shop scents. Which is amazing because I cannot stomach the actual fruit. The pink grapefruit range is not always in stores, so I will repurchase if I can get my hands on it.

Essence Products

Essence Gel Eyeliner in Miami Ink

Why did I buy this, if I don’t even like gel eyeliner? Well it was on sale for some ridiculously low price that couldn’t be passed. It hasn’t even been used and it’s too old to give to someone.

Essence 3D eyeshadow duo in Irresistible Foxtrot

This gorgeous eyeshadow duo consisted of a gorgeous bronze and a peach shade, well that was before it broke in my carry on luggage on a flight to Cape Town. Despite this, I continued to use the eyeshadow by mixing the shades together as one. The resulting shade was gorgeous and I managed to use at least half of the product, but because the shadow was broken I experienced a lot of fall out. The only reason I tossed this duo is because I bought a new one in the exact shade.

Essence Get Big! Lashes Volume Curl Mascara

This is the second mascara that I tried from the brand that I am disappointed in. With this one, my problem is not so much with the formula but the brush. It is huge and takes so much product out of the tube that it is messy to apply and always left smudges on my eyelids. There was still some product in the tube when I tossed it. I may give Essence mascara another try, but I’d have to first check in store that the tube doesn’t have a large wand.

Peel off Mask and BB Cream

Avon Hint of Nature Purifying Tea Tree and Cucumber Peel off Mask

This mask worked the first time I used it, but it wasn’t very efficient. After that, it never dried properly in order for the product to peel off my skin. It’s at least 50% full and I won’t buy it again.

Garnier Miracle Skin Perfector BB Cream in Medium

This made my face so oily and shiny. It’s probably a few years old and still relatively full. I couldn’t part with it as it felt wasteful, but it’s most likely rancid now. Needless to say, I won’t be repurchasing.

Pillow Mist and Beautifying Oil

Oh so Heavenly Wish Upon a Star Pillow Soothing Mist

This pillow soothing mist is lavender scented and was nice, but why stop at your pillows? Spray all of your bed linens with it. If I didn’t do this, it would have probably lasted longer. I got it as part of a gift set. I’ve repurchased a new bottle already.

The Body Shop Beautifying Oil in Satsuma

This little bottle of The Body Shop Beautifying Oil in Satsuma lasted ages. A little literally goes a long way, making it such great value for money. It can be used for hair, face and body but I only used it as a body oil. It is lightweight and rubs easily into the skin without leaving a film like feeling. Although The Body Shop doesn’t state this as one of the benefits of the beautifying oil, I am pretty sure it lightens stretch marks, because the oil lightened mine. There was a dramatic difference for me, but it didn’t happen overnight. It needs to be used continuously. The next time I buy one, I’ll try the Moringa or Shea butter version, as although I loved the sweet satsuma scent, I got bored of it after a while and like I said, the bottle lasts for ages.

toner and cream

African Extracts Rooibos Purifying Vanishing Cream

I bought this to get rid of shine in my T zone and blemishes caused by acne. Also because it was dirt cheap. It helped with the T zone a little too much. Long story short, it overworked and made my skin too dry. This won’t be on my shopping list anytime soon.

Avon Hint of Nature Hydrating Peach and Cotton Toner and Clicks Skin Collect Aloe Vera & Omega 3 & 6 Refreshing Toner

A toner is a toner is a toner, and I am not going to splurge on it. More expensive toners make my skin feel exactly the same as cheap ones. There’s nothing special about these ones,  but I’d definitely repurchase. As long as it’s alcohol free and affordable, I’ll use any brand’s toner.

Elizabeth Arden Maybelline and Lush

Lush Popcorn Lip Scrub

This scrub is amazing and smells so delicious. It’s a good thing that its edible, because trust me you’ll want to lick if from your lips. It lasts a really long time, so I would like to try one of the other scents at Lush.

Maybelline Baby Lips in Cherry Me

When Baby Lips arrived in SA, I bought a bunch of them. If someone told me I would finish not one but two lip balms in one month, I would think they’re joking. Much like pens, lip balms always go missing. This stick was misplaced at least two dozen times, so finishing it was quite an achievement. Baby Lips is not a bad lip balm, but it’s not better than Labello or Lip Ice, which is much cheaper. So unless I can get it on sale, I won’t be repurchasing.

Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream Lip Protectant

The only reason why I hadn’t lost this lip balm is because I kept it in a tray on my cabinet and only used it in the mornings and evenings after I cleansed my face. Definitely would repurchase.

Eyeshadow Palette

Profusion 36 shade palette

This palette is so old, the name is completely rubbed off. I probably got it in my first year at university when I first started getting into make up. Honestly, this has not been used for at least 2 to 3 years. The only reason why I kept is because I wear predominantly nudes and bronze shades, and only kept this for the colourful shades, which I never used because I don’t wear bright eyeshadows. I bought a quad from The Body Shop, so should I ever need to wear bright colours and that is sufficient for now. This palette was great while it was new, but it’s time to move on. The shadows are cheap quality and although most of the colours are pigmented, they are chalky. I won’t be repurchasing.
