A System Professionals and Salon Nouvo experience

February 9, 2018

Late last year I attended the Port Elizabeth media launch of System Professional hair products at Nouvo salon in Walmer. I also received a few products to try and I’ll review them at the end.

System Professional products allow dull and limp hair to be reborn and feel like virgin hair. According to the brand, each individual has a hair energy profile that is as unique as our fingerprints (even if you’re a twin). So basically because each person has a different hair profile, different products will work for different people. The products work towards rebuilding your energy profile and this is done through an Energycode mapping.

the truth about split ends

After the launch, I visited Nouvo for to do an energy code mapping.  The consultation for the Energycode mapping is relatively seamless. I was asked a few questions about my hair history (guys I have put my hair through a lot), routine, what I love about my hair, and my lifestyle. My scalp was also assessed, all of this information is put into an app and it gave us my personalised Energycode, which is:

H1 + S2 + S3 + X4L + R6

Based on my Energycode I was recommended to use the following System Professional products: Hydrating Shampoo (R 325.00), Smoothen Conditioner (R 385.00), Smoothen Mask (R 495.00), Liquid Hair (R 895.00) and Repair Perfect Ends (R 495.00). I was given the first three items to use at home. After mapping my hair, I was also given a complimentary wash and blow at the salon (I felt like a million bucks and got so many compliments on my hair).

Although I do not have dry scalp, my scalp is a bit on the drier side, which is why they recommended the Hydrating Shampoo (it does, however, contain sulphates). To help minimise frizz I also got the Smoothen conditioner and mask. These products definitely help straighten my hair, I cannot curl my hair if I used either. The mask also helped moisturise my dry ends a lot, however, it should not be used anywhere near my scalp or else my hair became a greasy mess.

The Liquid Hair and Repair Perfect Ends were advanced treatments, although I didn’t receive them, the stylist used it on my hair at the salon. The Liquid hair is a molecular hair refiller. My hair was chemically straightened, bleached and dyed (multiple times) so the length was quite damaged. The Liquid hair makes the hair feel and look smoother and lasts up to 5 washes. The Repair Perfect Ends is a serum-like lotion that seals split ends (at the time I did this, I had a ton and refused to let go of my length). I was super impressed with the Liquid hair treatment, as I actually had a noticeable difference once the treatment wore off after multiple washes. It gave my hair a sleekness and natural sheen.

I’m close to completing the shampoo and conditioner. I only use a tiny amount of the mask when I use it, so the tub is almost still full. Also, did I mention that it smells lovely?

The products are used by the stylists at Nouvo and can be purchased at the salon.Nouvo is situated at  134 Villiers Rd, Walmer and is a real treat. As an upmarket salon, I feel like they don’t only ensure that their clients look great leaving the salon, they also ensure that they feel great while in the salon. There’s massage chairs in the wash room and they also give amazing head massages while washing This was the second time I went to Nouvo, the first being years ago, probably a few months after they opened. And although the stylists that helped me were different, one thing was consistent, I felt so relaxed leaving the salon.
