An olive oil hair treatment

Olive oil hair treatment

Olive oils is more than just a healthy food option. Have you ever thought of using it on your hair? Olive oil is a great product to use on your hair. This Olive oil hair treatment will protect your hair from damage and dryness due to the coldness  in winter months and help prevent sun damage in summer.

Using this oil on your hair is believed to promote a healthy scalp. This in turn will  keep your hair healthy, strong and dandruff free. It is also believed that the seed oil assists with  faster hair growth. Although the treatment has instant benefits, most of the benefits can only be seen with consistent use.

There are various methods to create an olive oil hair treatment. Most commonly, extra virgin olive oil is used in recipes for the treatment. Here are two methods that I use.

Method one

Combine three tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil and two tablespoons honey.
Apply the mixture to wet hair (but not soaking) and wrap with plastic wrap or cover with a shower cap or plastic bag. Leave the treatment on for 15 minutes.
Rinse with lukewarm water, before shampooing and styling your hair as you normally would.
The oil will lock the moisture in your hair so depending on your hair type you can skip using a conditioner.

I should do more home made treatments. I’ve forgotten how soft and smooth they made my hair.

Method two

This method was was given to me by a friend’s mother. If you’re a brunette, the cinnamon will give your hair a brilliant shine.
Heat one tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil over a low heat. Add a teaspoon of  honey and a teaspoon of cinnamon and stir the mixture well to make a paste. Apply to hair, cover it with a shower cap and leave on for 15 minutes. Rinse with warm water and shampoo.

Have you used an olive oil hair treatment before? How did it affect your hair?
